As part of a customer project, Pronal supported an industrial client facing sealing issues during Big Bag filling in a powder conveying installation. Product losses, dust emissions, and the associated cleaning costs led to the implementation of a custom-designed inflatable seal solution to secure this key step of the process.
In this installation, the powder is produced and then intended for temporary packaging in Big Bags before transport. Once filled, the Big Bags are sealed and sent to another workshop, for example for a bagging operation, before being reintegrated into the industrial process.
The powder comes from a mixing area located in the upper part of the installation. It is conveyed by gravity through a drop chute and then falls directly into the Big Bag via its filling spout. The Big Bag is positioned beneath the hopper to allow filling.
However, during this phase, the customer faces a major challenge. The seal between the hopper and the Big Bag filling spout is not sufficient, resulting in product losses. In addition, dust disperses into the surrounding area, leading to contamination of the working environment and generating significant cleaning costs.
As a result, these constraints deteriorate operators’ working conditions and also impact the overall performance of the installation.
The inflatable seal ensures uniform sealing between two concentric components. In addition, it does not apply excessive mechanical stress to the Big Bag filling spout.
Thanks to this solution, the dispersion of dust in the surrounding area is prevented, and any product loss during Big Bag filling is eliminated. As a result, the working environment becomes cleaner and safer, and cleaning operations are significantly reduced.
The inflatable seal was tailor-made to meet the customer’s specific constraints. The materials used are compatible with food-grade applications and can also provide chemical resistance suited to certain products. Several solutions are available depending on the required stroke and the configuration of the installation.
Through this project, the customer has made its Big Bag filling process more reliable and has also improved the cleanliness of its installation. This project therefore illustrates Pronal’s expertise in designing The inflatable seal was tailor-made to meet the customer’s specific constraints.
This achievement demonstrates that a properly dimensioned sealing solution can transform a critical step in the process into a controlled and sustainable operation. By integrating seamlessly into the existing installation, the inflatable seal provides a concrete response to the operational, human, and economic challenges of Big Bag packaging, while highlighting Pronal’s expertise in developing high value-added industrial solutions.
